Manali sits at an altitude of 2,050 meters (6,726 feet) in the Beas River Valley, which causes its weather to shift dramatically between the valley floor and nearby high-altitude mountain passes like Rohtang Pass (3,978m) and the Atal Tunnel portal (3,000m). While the town stays pleasant during summer, mountain pass temperatures can hover near freezing.

To prevent altitude sickness and stay comfortable, follow these guidelines:

• Summer (April to June): Carry light cotton clothes, windcheaters, and good walking shoes. High-altitude spots still require light woolen layers.
